This year’s PDP programme saw 23 participants attend a 5-week development programme where they were able to refine previously learned skills while exploring strategies and increasing physical capacity. Over the course of the programme, we saw the confidence and belief in each participant grow which resulted in some competitive games. A big focus this year was around doing things right off the court- warming up, cooling down, eating right, hydration and positive reflections were some of the points that we covered. We were extremely fortunate to have Elisapeta Toeava from the Northern Mystics pass on her words of wisdom and inspire the next generation of South Auckland excellence. Our PDP players have a tournament against PDP teams from other centres on the 21st of July at Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre. Come on down to support our up-and-coming netballers from Manurewa.
Congratulations to our Cadbury VOM winner for June Ruth Heihei-Faivale.
Everyone needs a Ruthie Heihei in their team, club or netball centre. She is synonymous with South Auckland netball (you always feel like you are walking with royalty when you walk next to her through the netball courts). Ruthie has a contagious personality that is uplifting, encouraging, warm and passionate. She is so dedicated and committed to netball and inspires others with her work ethic, team player attitude and laughs. Many of us players follow her around different teams in the hope of playing with her. She is an absolute legend both on and off the court and it is a privilege to be on her team. Southern Cavs and South Auckland netball would not be where it is without her as a player!
Congratulations to our NM umpires Louisa Emile and Nitesh Krishna for being chosen to umpire at the 2024 NZ Men's Nationals in Tauranga in September. Well done to you both and we look forward to hearing about it on your return.
Unfortunately, we have had several incidences of negative behaviour both on and off the court. Players and Umpires have been targeted and we have zero tolerance for behaviours that breach our Code of Conduct or anything that mentally or physical impacts our Membership. The consequences of such actions and complaints are huge, it takes time to sort through the process to seek resolution. It affects our volunteers some of who are young and developing and are a necessity to maintain our pool of umpires and it affects our kids out on court who are the future of netball here in Manurewa.
We will be promoting the “Good Sport” philosophy throughout Netball Manurewa – Good Sports is all about creating positive sporting experiences for children and young people. It does this by supporting and educating parents, caregivers, coaches, teachers and sport leaders, who all contribute to children’s sport. Our Delegates will receive Good Sports education at the next hui, followed up by education to whānau, schools, coaches and managers through workshop opportunities, social media campaign, signage and verbal reinforcement on our netball days via mic.
We do not condone any behaviour that makes netball unenjoyable or unsafe for anyone involved, please help us uphold this by your own leadership and behaviours and those around you.
