Our Delegates meeting will be held on Thursday 20th June at 6.30pm here at NM upstairs in the official's room. We would like to request our next Delegates meeting be face to face as Netball Manurewa has some exciting news to share regarding NM Reinvestment Scheme for our netball whānau which will see financial reimbursement back to your players and teams for the 2024 season. More detail will be shared at hui, and we need you present to benefit from this – it will be a game changer moving forward for Netball Manurewa. We have also experienced complaints and feedback around sideline behaviour and abuse of Umpires which is unacceptable – it is happening across all grades. Join us as we deliver a ‘Good Sports’ Workshop to go over the philosophy behind it and how it supports positive behaviours for all participants players, team management, whānau and all those involved in the game. We would like to workshop the concept with Delegates before we roll out our Good Sports campaign. Season check in – lets catch up over kai to see how everyone’s season is tracking and what support NM can offer you. If you are not available to attend, please ensure someone from your club is present. |

Our two new Netball Development Officers have hit the ground running, already engaging in our Secondary Schools, planning tournaments and supporting our u14 Representative Team. Stan Smith is a homegrown Rewa boy who attended Manurewa High School and played his first netball here at our Courts in Manurewa. Fast forward to 2024 he has been actively playing, coaching and umpiring our great game and recently been named in the Stars Mens Team as a shooter. He has a deep love for our community and is passionate about Netball. He is so happy to be in a space to be able to give back to his community and the sport he loves while challenging gender ‘norms’ within sport. Rose Gardner-Walker has an energy and connection to our Tamariki & Rangatahi that is such an asset to the role. A local South Auckland girl hailing from Papakura High School, who has participated and represented in a variety of codes. She has quickly adapted to the netball environment and the development opportunities within and perfectly balances off our Netball Development Team. We are excited to see the future work of our NDO trio – first stop our Secondary School settings, if you are wanting netball development in your School or Club whether its Umpires, Coaches, Leadership or Players please touch base with us for support. |

The return of College Netball back at Netball Manurewa has been amazing. Seeing teams who have not competed here before, local schools and clubs and schools from out of our Region has made our six-week Rangatahi Wero a huge success. It is evident that a shorter comp, that is affordable and local at a time of week that works is a big draw card for participating teams – something that we are taking great learnings from. We have seen ‘new netballers’ out on the court those that haven’t had the opportunity to play before, not involved in Saturday netball or more attracted to the less competitive environment. We have also been able to provide a platform for our developing umpires to continue their learning and support. The addition of our four mixed teams has also provided a space for our male students and again provided a learning opportunity for us at Netball Manurewa. The tournament is in memory of Israel Hoterene-Rakete who was an Umpire here and at Papakura but also a big advocate for youth development and participation. We have two weeks left in competition before finals night, if you haven’t already been down to watch we invite you to the courts Mondays 5.30 start. |

Our second Rangatahi Wero tournament is a memorial to an amazing stalwart of Netball Manurewa ‘Dianne McDonald’. Her tenure at Netball Manurewa started as a player, then quickly transitioned into Coach and Umpire for Greenmeadows Intermediate. Her roles were multiple within the Committee including Fundraiser & Rep Convenor, Representative Coach, Manager and Umpire to Umpire Convenor. She was also involved in multiple netball clubs including Southern Souls, Motor Chicks, Little Souls, Bullets, Colonial Towing and was the President and Founder of Azz1 Netball Club. Her passion and love for the game and the people was her drive. She was always about the people; she always had a smile on her face no matter what. She was friendly, kind, generous and always laughing. She would open her arms to everybody that needed her help, and she would be the first to put her hand up for any role. She loved watching all her children play the sport she loved and was their biggest fan. Dianne retired from formal roles in 2016. Our second six-week Rangatahi Wero tournament is in memory of Dianne and all that she contributed to others and netball. Register here now |

Unfortunately, we have had several incidences of negative behaviour both on and off the court. Players and Umpires have been targeted and we have zero tolerance for behaviours that breach our Code of Conduct or anything that mentally or physical impacts our Membership. The consequences of such actions and complaints are huge, it takes time to sort through the process to seek resolution. It affects our volunteers some of who are young and developing and are a necessity to maintain our pool of umpires and it affects our kids out on court who are the future of netball here in Manurewa. We will be promoting the “Good Sport” philosophy throughout Netball Manurewa – Good Sports is all about creating positive sporting experiences for children and young people. It does this by supporting and educating parents, caregivers, coaches, teachers and sport leaders, who all contribute to children’s sport. Our Delegates will receive Good Sports education at the next hui, followed up by education to whānau, schools, coaches and managers through workshop opportunities, social media campaign, signage and verbal reinforcement on our netball days via mic. We do not condone any behaviour that makes netball unenjoyable or unsafe for anyone involved, please help us uphold this by your own leadership and behaviours and those around you.
